The Remix Project - The Remix Project Mixtape

In my last post I shared the work of Apple Juice Kid this is another album he had a hand in and another good Free Album Friday post. The Remix Project Mixtape features musicians playing instrumental covers of various hiphop songs. It works really well they add enough flavor to it but while staying close to the original. Most songs are pretty short and flow seamlessly from one to another. They cover artists like Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and much more. Below is their cover of the Scarface song “On My Block”. I would recommend you download the album you can grab it here as 320kbps mp3 if you want it in another format such as FLAC you can get it here. The players on The Remix Project Mixtape are

Drums: Apple Juice Kid
Bass: Matt Brandau
Percussion: Brevan Hampden
Keys: Mark Wells
Guitar/Samples: Dana Chell
Cuts: DJ Merlin

Apple Juice Kid - Miles Remixed

Apple Juice Kid is a drummer / producer he recently released the free album Louis Armstrong Remixed from listening to the songs on the site I’m not a huge fan. The way the vocals and the new beats come together don’t jive with me but he did release Miles Remixed in 2008 which is nice. On it he edits MIles Davis songs into new compositions and I think it will make a good Free Album Friday selection. Apple Juice Kid started as a drummer and moved into producing. He co-produced Camp Lo’s 2008 song “Lumdi” ,which I was a fan of, and he did a song for Wale that appeared on the itunes version of his Attention Deficit album. In addition to the Miles Remixed album he also played drums on The Remix Project Mixtape. Check his links below for more info on what he is up to.

Also if you are an older Jazz fan I would be interested to hearing what you think of what AJK did feel free to leave a comment below. Well I always encourage comments so feel free to speak your mind on it and any post regardless of age but I’m curious as to how a remix album like this is received to someone who mainly listens to Jazz. Do you appreciate it or do you see it as why is he messing with these songs I already like? Either way you can download the album here in 320kbps mp3 if you want it in another format such as FLAC you can download it here.
