How to Package Your Music (Jake One & Freeway)

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I think every label regardless of what kind of music you put out should take notes on how Rhymesayers Entertainment handles business. The packaging of the anticipated Stimulus Package is another example. If you don’t know Stimulus Package is a colab album between producer Jake One and rapper Freeway. In the video below (you can skip to around 1:15) it shows you the album which comes in a wallet like case and features a card to download the instrumentals.

If that wasnt enough if you pre order it from Fifth Element online (Rhymesayers store) you get a lot of treats

• Entered into a drawing for 1 of 5 $100 CASH prizes!
• Receive a Fifth Element Stimulus Check signed by Freeway & Jake One, your check will be good for 15% off a future purchase online.
• Receive both The Beat Made Me Do It mixtape & Freelapse mixtape.
• Instant digital download of the leaked track You Know What I Mean 320 kbps. In the download you will get the explicit, edited and instrumental version of the song.

Quite a good deal. Note I don’t get anything if you do order it from Fifth Element actually if you ordered it from Amazon I would get a little something so when the preorder goodies go away feel free to do that. But you got to hand it to Rhymesayers crew they are really doing things right.

Illogic

Illogic picture by Marla Campbell

Illogic is a MC who made his name in Columbus, Ohio as a part of the Weightless crew. His first album, Unforseen Shadows, came out in 1999 (cd version in 2000) and was received well in underground hiphop circles. In 2001 he dropped Got Lyrics? and followed that up with Celestial Clockwork in 2004. All of those album were produced by Blueprint and released on Weightless Recordings.

Illogic is a talented MC who really hasn’t got the shine over the years he deserves. He’s versatile, he can make a deep song that will make you think or one pen a battlerap with nice punchlines. He is a member of The Orphanage which is a supergroup made up of him and Blueprint of Weightless, Slug and Eyedea of Rhymesayers and Aesop Rock of Defjux. But honestly nothing really has become of this supergroup besides a freestlye session on a radio station and one track on a Weightless comp album. It’s really just an idea they had because they are friends and never followed up with. They called themselves The Orphanage because there is no father to their styles but it seems the members have abandoned the idea of the group.

You can buy each of these records from Weightless themselves for only 7.99 per album. Out of the three I would say Lyrics? is the one to check out first.

Atmosphere – Strictly Leakage

Strictly Leakage cover

Slug (MC) and Ant (producer) of Atmosphere got in the holiday spirit and are giving you a new album, Strictly Leakage. It’s got some nice joints, worth checking out. Also Slug isn’t the emo, depressing guy he has been lately on Strictly Leakage. Its not a mixtape kinda album Ant does produce but they go jacking for beats on the first track with “YGM”. Where Slug rocks over the classic Big Daddy Kane beat of “Young, Gifted and Black”. To get a feel for the album here is “That’s Not Beef, That’s Pork”
