Kid Koala and ex Wolfmothers tour and free album
Friday, September 4th, 2009Thanks to Kid Koala and company it looks like its a Free Album Friday but you need some back story first. Basically Kid Koala liked this little known band The Slew headed by Jack Slew who put out one album (with 50 known copies) and then didnt really do anything else. A filmmaker, Jay Rowlands, came along and wanted to do a documentary about The Slew and got the masters. He gave these masters to his friends Dynomite D and Kid Koala and they remixed them and was going to be the soundtrack to the documentary. But during the process Jack Slew got cold feet and shut the project down. But Kid Koala had already put a lot into The Slew project and was about done with his side of things. He ended up sharing some stuff with ex Wolfmother members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett and they offered to play live on a tour with Kid Koala. So now Kid Koala and P-Love on a total of six turntables and Chris Ross and Myles Heskett are going on a short one time only tour playing songs to a movie that will most likely never be released or finished. If you are a Kid Koala fan he has three songs on his 2006 album, Your Moms Favorite DJ, called Slew Test 1, 2 and 3 so you might be familiar with some of the work.

I have always been a fan of Kid Koala and have got to see him live before (some pictures from that show) and I would highly suggest going if he comes to your city. But Kid Koala is such a swell guy he is giving The Swell album (titled 100%) away for free, you can download it here. There will also be CD and LP copies to buy at the shows. The tour dates are below click on the venue to be taken to a page where you can buy tickets. If you end up going feel free to post a comment on the blog on how it was. NOTE on the flyer the Costa Mesa show says Kid Koala DJ set so this stop on the tour might not be the entire crew so look into that if you plan to go to that show.
